CWU presents singer-songwriter, activist Magdalen Hsu-Li
Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter, cultural activist and painter Magdalen Hsu-Li returns to Central to speak on the intersection of race, gender and the arts while performing music from her latest album, entitled “Smashing the Ceiling.” Admission is free and open to the public.
As an Asian American, bisexual, feminist woman who has also worked to overcome Tourette’s syndrome, Hsu-Li uses her public recognition as a musician to raise awareness about issues of equality, drawing on experiences she has faced throughout her own life. Hsu-Li’s music blends piano-based rock with a folk sound. Critics and listeners alike review her performances as not only entertaining, but also carrying significance as she communicates how to create a respectful, positive environment for all people.
